Under Compose messages, check the Always check spelling before sending box. Now when you click Send, Outlook checks spelling automatically. If there are no spelling mistakes, it sends the message right away. If you change your mind and want to edit the message some more, click Cancel to stop the spell check, and then click No. You can also check for Manual Spelling and Grammar Check before Sending: Manually checking for spelling and grammar can be done with this feature. You can check for spelling by pressing the F7 short key on your keyboard. Otherwise, click on the Review tab of the menu bar and click on the Spelling & Grammar. Under “Start from a blank rule”, choose Check messages after sending, and then click Next. Click the Next button again on the “Which conditions do you want to check” screen, and you’ll be prompted with this dialog informing you that the rule will apply to all messages. If you want to, you can set this rule up to only work for certain.

My boss is using Outlook 2003. He has it check his spelling before sending any e-mails. However, he has been noticing that no misspellings have shown up. So he purposely misspelled some items and then ran the check. It came back with no errors. Obviously, soemthing is not working. If you don't want to do check spelling manually for every message---or you're worried you might forget!---you can set Outlook to check spelling for you every time.

  1. Click File > Options > Mail.

In Outlook 2016 for Windows, there is an option to always check spelling before sending an e-mail message. Outlook 2016 for Mac does not have this option; instead it checks for spelling errors as you type. Outlook uses a dashed, red underline to indicate possible spelling errors. You can also check spelling at any time by using the Spelling button.

  1. When you see a word with a dashed, red underline, hold down CONTROL , and then click the word.
  2. On the shortcut menu, do one of the following:

  • To turn off automatic spell checking, on the Edit menu, point to Spelling and Grammar, and then clear the check mark next to Check Spelling While Typing.

Correct spelling automatically

If you want, Outlook can automatically correct some commonly misspelled words. For example, if you type freind, Outlook changes it to friend.

Note:This feature is available only with Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard) or later.

  • On the Edit menu, point to Spelling and Grammar, and then click Correct Spelling Automatically.
