Enable Editing Microsoft Word On

When a user opens a document with Word or PowerPoint 2007,SharePoint or OneDrive creates a lock on the document and prevents other users of Office from editing that document. To take best advantage of co-authoring in Word or PowerPoint, we recommend that everyone work with at least Office 2010 or newer versions, which includes the Office web. If you're part of the Teams public preview, you can choose the default way to open and edit Office files. Continue to open the file directly in Teams (default), open it in the web browser, or open it in the Word, Excel, or PowerPoint desktop apps. From the More options menu next to a file, select Open Change default. Create a Word document, and click File Options. To enable or disable the AutoFormat feature and options in Microsoft Word, follow the steps below for the version of Word on your computer.

Microsoft Word 2007 and later

  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. Click the File tab.
  3. Click the Options link in the left navigation pane.
  4. In the Word Options window, click the Proofing option in the left navigation pane.
  5. Click the AutoCorrect Optionsbutton.
  6. In the AutoCorrect window, click the AutoFormat tab.

In this section, users can enable or disable each of the AutoFormat features they do not want to use.

Microsoft Word 2003 and earlier

  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. In the menu bar, click Format and select AutoFormat.
  3. Click the Options button.
